Handshake 101 for EvCC Students
Description
Handshake is EvCC's platform for jobs, internships, and career events — and this session is your look at how to use it. Handshake connects 1,500+ universities worldwide with over 900,000 employers, and schools that join see on average a 3x increase in the size and diversity of their employer network. UW, WSU Everett, Seattle U, and other local colleges and universities already use Handshake to help students connect with employers and discover job and internship opportunities — so building your profile now means you'll be ready the moment employers start reaching out or as you continue your academic journey at a different institution. No experience needed — just bring your laptop, tablet or phone.
In this session, you'll learn how to:
- Set up and complete your Handshake profile
- Search and filter jobs, internships, and on-campus opportunities
- Get matched with employers based on interests and major

Questions & Answers
- What will I learn in this workshop?
You'll learn how to set up your Handshake profile, search and filter jobs and internships, RSVP for career events, and connect with employers recruiting at EvCC.
- Do I need to bring anything?
Just your laptop or phone and your EvCC login. If you'd like to upload a resume during the session, feel free to bring one, but it's not required.
- How do I log in to Handshake?
Handshake uses Single Sign On, or SSO, the same login as Starfish — no separate account or password to remember.
- Is this session for beginners?
Yes! All beginners welcome. This is an introductory session designed for students who are brand new to Handshake, including those who haven't job searched before.
- Is Handshake only for students who are actively job hunting?
No. Handshake is also how you'll RSVP for career fairs, employer events, and a way to practice building your professional identify on an employment platform— so it's worth setting up even if you're not job searching yet.
- Is this session useful if I don't have job experience yet?
Yes. Handshake matches you with opportunities based on your major and interests, not just past experience, and many employers on the platform are specifically looking for entry-level and first-time candidates.
- Can I get one-on-one help with my profile after this session?
Yes — stop by CELC drop-in hours or attend the Popcorn & Profile Party on Nov 4 for more support.
